A Long Cable Ride

One of the more famous mountains in the Alps is the Untersberg. It is situated in the southeastern corner of Bavaria and overlooks the city of Salzburg. If you're up to it, you can hike the trails and eventually find your way to the top. Otherwise, there is a cable lift that will carry you on an eight and a half minute ride to the Geierick Peak, where you can have lunch with a stunning view overlooking Salzburg. There is plenty to do on the Untersberg, depending on the time of year and how adventurous you are.

This mountain has a long history of myths, the most famous of which Adolf Hitler took note as he gazed upon the mountain from his Bergoff. It says that Charlamagne sleeps in an ice cave deep in the Untersberg, waiting for the time to come when he will rise to fight his final battle. I tried to be quiet so as not to awaken him. ;)
